Plucked straight from Carolina soil, these top-tier Virginias were all grown, thrashed, blended, pressed, and then lovingly sliced and tinned right here in the heart of old tobacco country. The 25 tin a day limit is too high and leaves many of us wanting Jeremy Reeves confined himself to a limited medium: just painting with Virginia leaf (from one of Americas greatest tobacco regions, the Carolina Old Belt) and nothing else. Gentlemen zombie nailed it with the fruit punch flavor ! patience with this one. As a general matter, as good as a blend gets, and the reviews/ratings reflect that. I have the impression that pipe smokers can be described by various terms, divided into distinct classes along several lines of distinction. I have become sensitive to this the last few years and I have to say that even last year's CRFwP didn't pack the wallop that this does. Probably the only complaint I would have if I had one is that the enhanced sweetness reduces it's "bite" and I like the bite a lot, that's why I mostly smoke untopped straight VA's and burleys (with the exception of LC Santee). I didn't feel like anything developed. It is amazingly sweet for red VA, but it is also fairly pungent (like the tin note), and these contrasting qualities balance this blend beautifully. I have NOT opened the tins and smoked it. with the number of choices out there I won't be so tempted to crack the open sooner. What others have said rings true, but I wanted to chime in on nic hit. Presentation: Typical C&D flakes. Make it 5 tins a day and keep the hogs at bay. Imagine sourcing the extremely fine Red Virginias that McClelland used but then instead of dumping the ketchup sauce (vinegar) on the tobacco, choosing not to do that instead. Full flavor and a bit of sweetness were right there all the way down. based upon the description i expected a little more sweetness, i found it to be somewhat bland and one dimensional. Very sweet - possibly the sweetest tasting and smelling tobacco I've had. If I see it come up again at S.P., I will add to the stack. Smooth and reliable smoke. But this is wonderful, composed, but with that American "rawness" readily available. There are no nutty burleys or sweetly sour Orientals to his behind, like improperly smoked meat can hide behind a strong barbecue sauce. I try and try. Man is this stuff good! The only thing I differ on from what Jim notes is that it is fairly complex. The lead note is something I have no was of identifying accurately, but it is a special thing. I think the blend that broke me on red was Blockade Runner, a tasty rum soaked navy cake that still has a raw, pure tobacco taste behind the rum. I do recommend letting the tobacco dry out a little bit before lighting up because there was a little bit of moisture build up. None of the notes of the flavor bouquet are knocked out or intensified, even if you sniff for a long time - only an almost imperceptible smell of white pepper appears. Carolina Red Flake didn't have the tang or sweetness that I was expecting (I certainly didn't get the sweetness, dark fruit and tanginess that other reviews from 2016 were raving about).
